POLICY ON PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

INAMORI FOUNDATION

With full recognition of the importance of personal information, we at the Inamori Foundation (the Foundation, below) take it as our social responsibility to safeguard and handle the information in a thoroughly appropriate manner. We therefore confirm adherence to the "Act on the Protection of Personal Information"(*) and other applicable laws, and act in accordance with the in-house policies established under our independent control system for protection and handling of personal information.


1.      Acquisition of Personal Information

We at the Foundation acquire personal information within reasonable bounds after clarifying the purpose, and will not use the information in any way except for the purpose clarified at time of acquisition.

2.      Purpose of Use

Acquired personal information shall be used solely for implementation of the activities stipulated in the act of endowment of the Foundation. When acquiring personal information directly from the person concerned, we will inform the person of the purpose of acquisition in advance. The personal information acquired in any other manner shall be used solely for the purposes to be defined separately.

3.      Security of Personal Information

Concerning all the personal information the Foundation has acquired, we will control it in an appropriate manner, and take necessary measures for prevention of wrongdoing including unjust access, theft, loss, unauthorized destruction, alteration and disclosure, as well as implement corrective action where necessary. When entrusting a third party with personal information held by the Foundation, we will control and supervise the use of the information by such party to maintain security of the information.

4.      Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

We will not provide to any third party any personal information held by the Foundation, except in the cases specified below:

(1)  The provision is approved by the person to whom the personal information refers;

(2)  The provision is requested by a public authority under an applicable law or ordinance; or

(3)    The provision is required for protection of a human life or property and it is not possible to obtain timely approval from the person to whom the personal information refers.

5.      Disclosure, Correction and Deletion of Personal Information held by the Foundation

If the person to whom the personal information refers requests disclosure, correction or deletion of any relevant personal information held by the Foundation, we will, after identifying the person, deal with the request in a prompt and appropriate manner. If such a request is made by a proxy of the person, we will, after identifying his or her status as the proxy, deal with the request in a prompt and appropriate manner.

7.  Continuous Improvement of “The System and Measures for Compliance with Applicable Laws and Ordinances”

We at the Foundation will review and continue to improve our policies, systems, internal rules, implementation, etc. of protection of personal information held by the Foundation, in response to various changes such as the changes in the Foundation’s operation, laws and ordinances, society and IT environment.
