Malawi Society of Japan

General

The Society was founded on 26 February 1983 by ex-Japanese volunteers who had served in Malawi based on Japanese government sponsored programme called "Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV)".

Membership: approx. 250 (about 90% is ex-Japanese Volunteers)

4.

Main Objectives:

  • To let Japanese society know "Malawi"

    This is because very few Japanese people know where Malawi is, how people there live, what Malawian cultures are like, etc., due to physical distance and little historical relationship between the two countries.

  • To perform NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) activities for social and technical development of Malawi
  • To promote friendship between Malawi and Japan

5.

Activities:

For the objectives above, the following activities are currently carried out.

  • Monthly Meeting
  • General Meeting, once a year (May)
  • Social Gathering, once a year (July) (inviting people concerned with Malawi)
  • Organizing and implementing events for publicity of Malawi
  • Participation in events concerning "Africa" held by other organizations (including governmental organizations)
  • Assistance for activities of Malawi Embassy in Japan
  • Issuing News Letter "KWACHA" (written in Japanese) semi-annually
  • Editing and issuing publications
